Welcome to the spiritual home of Whitestone Cheese - the Whitestone Diner & Deli situated in the north end of Oamaru.
Whitestone Cheese is a true local success story starting from a garage in 1987 to now distributing cheese and employing over 75 staff across New Zealand.
In 2023 the old 'Tui Tearooms' was purchased to develop a new front facing store and restaurant for the business.
This project was designed & project managed by Annabel Berry Creative Co alongside the team at Whitestone Cheese to create a new hospitality venture for the business.
The purchase of the 1957 building with its heritage deco and retro features alongside the local environment and brand elements provided the basis for the overall interior design.
A new take on an old classic was at the heart of the scheme. Respecting the buildings past while retro fitting it for the modern world. Curves from the buildings exterior were taken inside with arches, panelling and mouldings on counters and cabinetry throughout.
The home of cheese had to smack of cheese - a shop at the entrance includes ceiling height Wall of Cheese and built in refridgeration throughout.
The Diner itself provides a warm and inviting space with built in booths, cork flooring, a fireplace and bar area for ambience at night.
Palette and pattern play a major role in the success of this project with a fusion of mellow colours of powder blues, coral, teal and terracotta that invite people to stay.
Bespoke elements feature throughout including fabric skirted pendant lights, custom Quartizite tables, curved counters, and a large group table that converts into a leaner at night.
